What about previous proposals?
Previous ideas for the site, including proposals involving housing, are not being taken forward at this time.
Earlier consultation showed strong local views about how the site should be used.
We have listened to that feedback and are starting again with a more open conversation about future possibilities.
How is the site used now?
The site is used by a wide range of groups, including:
Usage is high and continues to grow, particularly in football.
However, the current facilities limit what can be offered, especially for women and girls.
Why can’t the current building just be improved?
The existing building is beyond its expected lifespan and is in very poor condition.
It does not meet modern standards, including those required by national sporting bodies, and cannot be upgraded in a cost-effective way.
This is why we need to consider longer-term options.
