Holton Road Retail Unit Redevelopment

Have Your Say on the Future of the Former Wilko Store, Barry

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has bought the former Wilkinsons store on Holton Road in Barry. The Council plans to bring the building back into use and help improve the town centre.

While essential work is being carried out inside the building, we want to hear your views and ideas about how the space could be used in the future.

When the purchase was first announced, many people suggested using the building as an indoor market. This is something we are keen to explore. However, the building is very large and covers two floors, so there may be opportunities for more than one type of use.

We would like to hear all ideas, whether they are large or small.

What happens next?

We see this project being developed in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Trial or “pilot” different ideas and uses for the building
  • Stage 2: Use what we learn to develop longer‑term plans, including business cases and funding bids

Your feedback will help shape how this important town centre building is used in the future.

Have your say

There are lots of ways you can share your ideas with us:

The initial window for sharing your ideas will close on 27 March, we will then review the feedback and let you know what our next steps will be.
