The Creative Communities team are leading Placemaking activity on behalf of the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Preliminary meetings between the Creative Communities team and Cowbridge Town Council began in 2023 and we’ve been meeting on a regular basis ever since to develop our joint approach to Placemaking in Cowbridge and to deliver a Placemaking Plan for the town.
Over the last two years we’ve met with a number of community groups and key stakeholders in the town. We’ve been out and about meeting with residents of the different neighbourhoods within Cowbridge and we've also met with neighbouring Community Councils, local Sports Groups and pupils in the local Secondary and Primary Schools. We’ve also attended a number of seasonal community events and have talked with residents visiting the Leisure Centre, the Library and local Supermarkets. Throughout the development of the Placemaking Plan, we've made sure that as many residents of Cowbridge as possible have the chance to share their views about what it’s like to live in the town, as well as their ideas about what changes could be made to make Cowbridge a sustainable town for the future.
Creating the Placemaking Plan
In November 2024 the Draft Placemaking Plan was shared with local residents through an exhibition of information panels outlining the purpose of the plan, the vision and objectives for Cowbridge and the opportunity areas where projects or interventions are proposed. A pdf of these panels can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page. Many people came to see the exhibition which was held for one day at the Town Hall and then for six days at the Old Hall. We collated all the feedback received during those days, as well as from the online survey which was online here until November 25th. The completed Placemaking Plan was approved by the Town Council and by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in June 2025 and can be viewed and downloaded from the right hand side of this page.
