A key element of setting the long-term plan for Barry will be community involvement.

If you would like to be involved in setting the long term vision for Barry and contribute to debate on the priorities for investment over the next ten years then we would love to hear from you.

Please register to get involved in community engagement events, or to join the Partnership and be kept informed as the plan for Barry progresses.

An initial workshop session and a drop-in event was held at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry on Wednesday 15 May.

    PRESS RELEASE:

What would your priority be for the regeneration of Barry?

Last Autumn, it was announced that Barry would receive £2 million a year for the next 10 years in funding from the UK Government as part of its Levelling Up grant.

The Government has asked each town receiving this grant to highlight their local priorities associated with the following themes:

    • Regeneration, high streets and heritage
    • Tackling anti-social behaviour, improving safety and security
    • Improving connectivity – walking/cycling/transport

A key element of the scheme will be involvement from residents to highlight what matters most in your local area. Made up of local residents, businesses and community groups, a Barry Partnership will be established to determine the priorities for how the funding should be spent. David Stevens, former CEO of the Admiral Group, will Chair the Partnership.

Speaking of the project, David said: “The goal of the £2 million a year spend over the next 10 years is to make a positive difference to Barry, not just as a one-off but for the long-term. To achieve that we need your help, your best ideas, on how to make the most of the money.”

If you would like to get involved in shaping Barry’s future, please register your interest via participate.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/plan-for-barry . We are looking for representatives who would like to join the Partnership, as well as those who would like to share their views at future engagement events.

Speaking about the project, Vale of Glamorgan Council Leader Cllr Lis Burnett, said: “I’m really pleased that Barry has been awarded this funding, one of only four towns in Wales to benefit.

“Barry and its people have no shortage of talent or ambition. At a time when the Council’s budgets are under significant strain, this additional funding will provide money for the longer-term achievement of that ambition and to deliver improvements that otherwise we simply could not afford.”
