There are 13 native amphibian and reptile species in the UK as well as several non-native species. Our project currently focuses on 3 species (although we welcome hearing about all other species):
What We are Doing for Toads, Adders & Great Crested Newts
Surveys We’re conducting surveys for all three species, with a special focus on adders. Since only a few small adder populations are known in the catchment, we’re eager to discover new sites.
Volunteer Training In partnership with ARC, we’ve trained volunteers to survey for adders. We also plan to offer guidance to landowners on managing their land to better support reptiles.
eDNA Sampling We have undertaken eDNA sampling of a range of existing ponds in the catchment to establish the presence of Great Crested Newts. This helps feed into our habitat works, especially pond creation and pond enhancement work.
