How were the designs produced?
The two options have been produced by Barry based street artists Hurts So Good and in line with a design brief developed following engagement with the local community in 2023.
The background and colour scheme of the two designs is the same.
The skatepark sits within Cold Knap which is a Cadw Registered Historic Park and Garden. It is also within the Barry Marine Conservation Area.
The designs and colour scheme have been chosen in consultation with Cadw to ensure the final mural will not look out of place or detract from the character of the park.
They feature local scenes such the nearby viaduct and other historical features of the park.
Design Two features a silhouette of local in-line skater Richard Taylor, in whose memory the skatepark was first built. The other uses only generic images.
Following this public consultation the final design will be approved by the Council's planning department, with advice and comments from Cadw, to ensure it is in keeping with the rest of the park.
