Empty properties in the Vale

The Vale of Glamorgan has a growing need for more quality, affordable housing.

There are properties across the county that have been left vacant for a long time, while many individuals and families wait for a suitable place to live..

With the right approach, empty properties, including residential homes, commercial buildings, and vacant brownfield sites, could be used to:

  • help meet the growing demand for housing
  • provide more workspaces and sites for local businesses
  • improve the look and feel of our towns and villages

As part of our commitment to improving housing availability and supporting local communities, the Vale of Glamorgan Council is reviewing its approach to tackling long-term empty properties.

About the Empty Property Strategy 2025 - 2030

The Empty Property strategy will guide how we prioritise action, support property owners, and work in partnership to bring empty properties back into use.

This could include anything from better signposting empty property owners towards financial support available to them, to facilitating a landlord forum.

We are particularly interested in exploring new ways of working with, and strengthening our relationships with landlords, residents, housing providers, and local businesses.

Have your say on the Strategy

We want your thoughts to help shape the Empty Property Strategy 2025 - 2030.

Your input will help inform a strategy that reflects local needs and delivers real lasting change for communities across the Vale.

The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
