The Creative Communities team are leading the Placemaking activity on behalf of the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Meetings between the Creative Communities team and Llantwit Major Town Council began last year.
We’ve been meeting on a regular basis to develop our joint approach to Placemaking in Llantwit Major. We agreed which community events we needed to attend and an engagement strategy was agreed to make sure that as many residents of Llantwit as possible would have the chance to share their views about what it’s like to live in Llantwit and their ideas about what changes could be made to make Llantwit Major a sustainable town for the future.
Officers and Members from the Town Council have met with countless community groups across the town and Vale and Town Council Officers have also organised a number of residents’ drop-in events in local venues. We’ve also been out and about talking to residents in the shopping centre and in local venues like the Leisure Centre and CF61.

We’ve recently appointed a firm of consultants to take on the specialised work of creating the actual Placemaking Plan document. They will draw together all the evidence and data that we have gathered so far and will draw up a list of potential schemes and projects that reflect this evidence and which, subject to funding, could be put into action.

A draft version of the plan will be ready by the end of the year and we will be asking residents to look at this draft document and offer their views and suggestions on the contents. Watch this space for more information!
