About Project Zero

In July 2019, we joined Welsh Government and other Local Authorities across the UK in declaring a Climate Emergency in response to the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report into the impact of global warming.

Project Zero is the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s response to the Climate Change Emergency.

It brings together the wide range of work and opportunities available to tackle climate change, reduce the Council’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030 and encourage others to make positive changes.

We have already made changes across the organisation and started projects to reduce our carbon emissions.

We must all work together to adapt to and reduce the effects of climate change. Together we have an opportunity to change and to make a difference and we are bringing all of this work together as Project Zero.

Our Plan

Whilst it is clear there is excellent work underway across the Council to address the climate emergency, through Project Zero we have identified eighteen challenges that will drive positive change.

These include challenges on energy, waste, water, land use, transport and more, as outlined in the Climate Change Challenge Plan 2021-2030 and Executive Summary.

Lead by example

Energy and transport

Waste, Land and Buildings
