In October 2023, the Vale of Glamorgan's Youth Council hosted a Climate Conversation event, at the Memo Arts Centre, Barry.

Designed in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the event brought young people from across the Vale together with decision makers to discuss their experiences of climate action, their ambitions for the future and how these could be achieved.

Youth Council members selected two topics of particular interest to them to focus discussions on at the event: waste and recycling, and transport.

Project Zero is the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s response to the climate change emergency. It brings together the wide range of work and opportunities available to tackle the climate emergency, reduce the Council’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030 and encourage others to make positive changes.

All Council service areas have a role to play in helping the organisation meet its target in 2030, and the Council recognises the importance of engaging with staff and residents along the way.

The Vale of Glamorgan's Youth Council plays an important role in amplifying the voice of young people in the Vale and have provided valuable feedback on various projects including Project Zero.

The Climate Conversation event is just one of the ways that the group has fed into the Project Zero programme of work.

All feedback from the event was captured and the Council has now committed to undertaking actions in 2024 based on the discussions at the event. You can read a summary of the feedback and next steps on the Climate Conversation Summary on a Page.
