Residential Parking at Barry Island

The Council is currently reviewing the parking arrangements at Barry Island, and we want to hear resident's thoughts on our proposed changes before the proposals are formally consulted on later in the year.
Last year, it was agreed by the Council’s Cabinet that we would look at ways to make the current parking scheme at Barry Island clearer and more efficient for both residents and visitors.
After careful review, we now have an initial design and want your feedback to help shape the final plan.
The proposals
The proposals include changes to residential parking on Plymouth road, Friars road, Dyfrig street and Redbrink crescent.
Our proposed changes aim to:
Make parking bays clearer for residents and visitors with improved signage and markings
Reduce the number of parking tickets issued by making the scheme easier to follow
Help residents who face parking difficulties due to visitors to Barry Island
The proposals detailed below present revised locations for resident-only parking areas, limited waiting zones, and prohibited parking areas.
A detailed, PDF copy of the plan is available to view here.
Under the proposals, parking bays would be clearly marked along each controlled road and signs would show how each bay can be used.
Most bays would be reserved for residents and their visitors, while others would allow short-term parking for all motorists, with time limits shown on signs.
The new bays and signs would replace the current entry signs that mark Resident Permit Parking Areas or Zones.
The proposals comply with the council’s Resident Parking Controls Policy.
Feedback
At this stage, we are inviting residents of Plymouth road, Friars road, Dyfrig street and Redbrink crescent to take a look at the proposals and complete our short feedback form.
This feedback will be reviewed and used to form the final designs that we will hold a public consultation on later this year.
We’re hosting a drop-in information event on Thursday 10 April 2025 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm, at Barry Island Community Centre, Friars Road CF62 5TR, where you can learn more about the proposals, speak with council officers, and share your thoughts.
If you’re unable to attend, you can still view the proposals and provide feedback via the online form below until midnight on 27 April 2025
Your feedback is invaluable in shaping a parking scheme that works for everyone, so we encourage you to have your say.
